18 Tips to a Safer Medication Use

1. List all medicines you take. Include name, dose and frequency. Don't forget to include vitamins, minerals, herbs, topical medications, eye and ear drops, sprays, weight loss aids, oral contraceptives.

2. Know the brand and generic names of the medication. In fact, many people know the medications they take by its color and size rather than its name.

3. Know what condition/disease the medication is for. It's important because you are more likely to use it correctly, more likely to know what to expect from the medication, and better able to report what you are using and problems to your doctors and pharmacist.

4. Avoid getting the wrong prescription from the pharmacy. Check the medication you pick up. Make sure it matches up with the prescription.

5. Use online drug interaction checker that allows you to enter the medications you take and check for possible drug interactions.

6. Conditions that place person at higher risk for drug interactions include:

- Taking three or more medications for chronic conditions.

- Genetically based variations in drug-metabolizing capacity.

- Advanced age.

- Certain diseases (anemia, asthma, cardiovascular disease, critical care/intensive care patients, diabetes, epilepsy, gastrointestinal disease, liver disease, hypothyroid)

- People cared for by several doctors.

7. Drugs most likely to be involved in clinically significant interactions are:

- Drugs with a narrow therapeutic index (e.g. warfarin, digoxin)

- Drugs that require cautious dosage control (e.g. antihypertensives, antidiabetic drugs)

- Liver enzyme inducers (e.g. rifampicin, phenytoin) and inhibitors (e.g. cimetidine, ketoconazole)

- Drugs with multiple pharmacological effects

8. Pay attention to how you feel after starting the new medicine and note any changes. Assume that any new symptom you develop after starting a new medication might be caused by the drug. Use online tool to check for side effects.

9. Inform the doctor if medication doesn't seem to be effective. No medication has 100% efficacy rate.

10. Avoid treating adverse drug reactions and drug-induced disease with more drugs. Distinguish the real disease and adverse reaction to the medication. Adverse drug reaction should be managed by lowering the dose of the offending drug or replacing it with a safer alternative.

11. Weigh the benefits and risks, making the choice of drug treatment. If drug is the preferred treatment for the medical problem, try to choose the most safest and effective one. You must decide what risks you can and will accept in order to get the benefits you want.

12. Start the medication with as low a dose as possible. A lower dose will cause fewer adverse effects, which are almost always dose-related.

13. Eliminate the unnecessary drugs. At least every three to six months, regularly review with your doctor the need to continue each drug being taken.

14. Know when the medication should be taken: before, during, or after food. Food can increase, decrease, or delay the absorption of numerous drugs. Food-drug interactions can lead to a treatment failure or a toxic effects of drug therapy.

15. Be aware of your medication needs and be prepared for any emergency. Store 3-5 days supply of medications that are important to your health.

16. Don't skip or reduce the doses. Missed doses of glaucoma medicine, for example, can lead to optic nerve damage or blindness. Missed doses of heart medicine can lead to cardiac arrest.

17. Learn how to discontinue the use of the medication. Many medications (e.g. antidepressants, corticosteroids) should not be stopped abruptly.

18. Many sources recommend to throw out unused medication. However, if you expect you may need the same medication soon, it makes sense to reserve the rest of the drug. It may help you to save the money. So, if you decide to save the rest of unused medicine for future use "just in case"; follow the next steps:

- Save the medication in the original container with the cap closed. It will help to identify the drug over the time and provide proper storage conditions

- When use the old medication, check expiration date. In case you can't find the expiration date, throw out the drug.

ADHD Medication - Is it the Right Choice For Your Child?

If you are like me, when you first heard about ADHD medication, you were very concerned about giving it to your child. ADHD is an issue that a rapidly growing number of families are facing in the western world. They have experienced the stress and frustration that accompanies ADHD and are looking for the best solution for their child-one that is both safe and effective. Many choose medicine for ADHD, but a growing number of families are choosing to address ADHD issues from a natural approach.

Typically when a doctor diagnoses ADHD in an individual, he will immediately recommend stimulant ADHD medication. Doctors will tell you that children with ADHD make a complete turn around in school. For many children, it is true that grades and behavior improve when a child begins taking medicine for ADHD. The conflicts decrease, and grades increase, but at what cost.

It is unbelievable to me how little a doctor will discuss the importance of sleep and nutrition to a child with ADHD. Some professionals believe that 80% to 90% of ADHD issues are due to poor nutrition. Since most medicine for ADHD actually acts as an appetite suppressant, it may only make things worse.

The result is that a child who was very likely a picky eater in the first place, now almost stops eating completely. And what he does eat is usually void of nutrition. Most of the families I am familiar with whose children take ADHD medication have had serious weight loss issues to deal with soon after beginning medication. The solution the doctor often gives is to provide the child with protein shakes as often as they will drink them. Some children become malnourished to the point of developing physical health problems.

The other major problem with ADHD medication is that it is a stimulant and thus the primary side effect is that it affects sleep pattens. Many people take this same type of medication to stay awake through the night if studying for exams or driving all night. And because of the addictive nature of medicine for ADHD, it is a controlled substance.

With these problems associated with ADHD medication, what is the best way to address ADHD? To begin with, make sure your child is getting adequate amounts of sleep. Children typically need between 11 and 13 hours of sleep each night.

If they are having problems falling asleep, as many children with ADHD do, there are many natural herbal products that can help. Also removing as much sugar and red dye from the diet as possible will usually help. All children will benefit from getting more sleep, and most will show great improvement in ADHD symptoms. Medicine for ADHD will almost always decrease the amount of sleep a child gets.

Because ADHD medication is an appetite suppressant, your child's nutritional intake will drop off and they will not receive the vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are so important to brain development. Before trying medication, see to it that your child is getting balanced nutrition. Begin each day with protein and avoid the empty carbs. A breakfast of waffles and syrup is a recipe for disaster while a breakfast of mostly protein and whole grains will help improve focus and concentration.

Lastly, instead of turning to medicine for ADHD, supplement the diet with a broad based nutritional supplement to provide what is missing in the diet. The importance of vitamins and minerals cannot be overstated.

Also target the specific type of ADHD with natural products. If the main symptom your child displays is hyperactivity, you may want to look into some herbal ingredients that have a calming effect. Herbs such as ginkgo help the brain receive more nutrients from the blood, thus improving concentration and behavior.

There you have it. Skip the ADHD medication until you have tried a more holistic, natural approach. Remember, the decision is yours, not the doctor's. Try various things to improve the amount of sleep and the quality of nutrition your child is getting. You will also find that natural remedies are very effective and can provide quick results. Following this plan will give you the peace of mind of knowing that you are providing the best and safest treatment for your child with ADHD.

Medicinal Cannabis - Sick of Your Prescription Medication? Medicinal Cannabis May Be Safer

Prescription medications can be dangerous. Even over-the-counter medications can sometimes cause negative reactions. These medications include chemicals that can cause allergic reactions, negatively react with other substances, and cause a wide range of other problems.

Every time a consumer turns on their television, they are bombarded with commercials for prescription drugs. However, half of these commercials are spent warning users of side effects, ranging from mild to sometimes fatal. It makes many people question what they are putting into their bodies.

The Advantages of Medicinal Cannabis Over Traditional Medications:

One of the main reasons for medical marijuana is that it's safe. It is almost impossible to overdose and very few people report negative side effects. The people that do report side effects complain of things like warped time perception or short term memory loss. The side effects of marijuana are extremely mild when comparing them with the effects caused by other medications.

Medical marijuana has been found to be even safer than aspirin. Aspirin, which was first introduced in 1899, has caused around 500 deaths every year. Aspirin can also cause stomach bleeding, stomach problems, liver damage, nausea, vomiting, and many other side effects.

Of course, there are also disadvantages to medical marijuana. The main disadvantage is that it is not a cure-all. However, neither is any synthetic drug.

Medicinal marijuana can usually not be used to cure medical conditions. Instead, it is used to manage the negative effects of these conditions. Obtaining a medical marijuana card will not save patients from requiring any other medication during their lifetime. Fortunately, patients that have difficulty with other medications or want to limit the amount of synthetic chemicals they put into their body, can use medical cannabis to successfully treat a wide range of symptoms.

The last line of defense against medication errors: you need to know to keep your family safe

This is a true story.

Yesterday, I picked up a new recipe of antibiotic for my daughter in my local pharmacy.

(We recently adopted my daughter of the India where he had recurrent ear infections resulting in severe hearing loss). (And she is about to undergo the second of several planned surgeries in an attempt to repair the damage.)

Before put to sleep, he left the new drug of the bag, he looked at the instructions and prepared to give the medication according to the instructions on the label.

Just before doing so, I had a quick double-take.

Something seems wrong. I looked at the instructions again and slowly, thought * it * s happening... This * t think right.* then, hit me the dose seemed terribly high for her.

It took me a minute or two to put the pieces together (it had been unusually heavy fighting him preparing for bed, I was tired, I trusted my daughter * s medical and I was thinking perhaps less critically that I have). And then I noticed. The label had a stranger * name s.

After another moment or two, I saw what had really happened.

Medication entered into a table. Each side of the box had a different label... a label was for my daughter and a label for a stranger. And the stranger * s dose was more than twice as much as my daughter * s surgeon had recommended.

(This error * t happens in a homemade pharmacy.) (It happened in a pharmacy in modern new chain whose name would recognize ad on TV.)

I * m not a surgeon... and I * m not a paediatrician... but I'm a doctor trained in internal medicine and I have spent most of the last twelve years writing about speaking and development of systems to reduce the frequency of medication errors and improve the safety of the practice of pharmacy.

This pharmacy error brought the issue of the safety of drugs home for me... literally.

What I can tell you is that this type of error occurs all too often in the United States (and worldwide). And you can have devastating consequences for the people involved.

A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine indicates that 25% of patients taking one or more prescription medications will experience an adverse event within three months--and 39% of these are preventable or avoidable.

The Harvard Medical practice study found reported in JAMA in 2001 that 30% of patients with drug-related injuries died or were disabled for more than 6 months.

And what almost everyone who studies accepts this problem is that current systems to select drugs, them, communicating a prescription at a pharmacy, drug dispensing, dosing teaching patients about their safe use are woefully inadequate.

In this series, let's take a close look at the processes that cause medication errors (some things your doctor and pharmacist may not even want you to know) and what measures can be taken specifically to make sure that you and your love are protected from this threat.

Ten years ago, your ability to get current, objective, accurate information about their drugs's fast and easy way was practically non-existent. It would have probably involved a trip to the library and requires considerable knowledge of Pharmacology for the answers.

Today, that * s is not the case. There are a lot of tools online, databases and resources to obtain information about medicines that even your doctor and pharmacist may not know.

We * re going to talk about them, show off to go tell them the key things you need to know about drugs, exposing some myths and let you know the questions you should ask. It * s not as difficult as it may seem.

In fact, it needs to become the last line of defense in the battle against medication errors.

Throughout, we will give you some basic rules that should guide their defense.

Thus rule number 1. Trust, but verify. Never assume that the medication is dosed correctly for you or it has received the right medication for you. Specifically, you should check:

the name of the patient in the bottle;

the name of the doctor in the bottle;

the name of the medicinal product (and cross check to make sure that is a problem or a disease actually have... There are many names of drugs look alike/sound alike out there);

dose (an independent source... to make sure that it is a plausible dose for you);

the * path * (to ensure, for example, be prescribed eyedrops for eye and no mouth or ear... amazingly drug loss injuries occur all the time);

the expiration date.

We * ll talk about some specific resources that will help with each of them throughout this series.

The result, hopefully, will be the piece of knowledge that you and your family are receiving their 7 rights:

drugs right;

correct patient;

correct dosage;

right time;

correct path;

right reason;

correct documentation.

In!

Pain medication that can legally ask online

Millions of Americans living with pain. Chronic pain, daily pain, acute pain in the short term. Of all the medicines sold in the pharmacies on line, by far the most common type is analgesic. You would think that online pharmacies are a great source of pain relievers.

Well, do you know United States drug enforcement agency (DEA) has been broken and close more than 5,000 pharmacies online? Did you know that many online pharmacies selling counterfeit medicines? Did you know that it is a federal crime for you to order prescription drugs from outside United States?

It is true, online pharmacies are a great source of pain relief medication. This article shows you how to order the pain medication legally, from the United States, with a legal requirement. It's the only way to go!

First, the caveats: legally cannot be medication from outside United States, even if you have a recipe. We always hear about the elderly taking buses to Canada to buy cheap medicine. The fact is, as of this writing, this course is illegal. In addition, cannot legally order medicine from a pharmacy without a prescription. Many pharmacies online (including mine) have physicians on staff to review your medication request and write a prescription if they think it's safe. In addition, never order narcotics through the mail. Forget codeine, Tylenol # 3, oxycontin, demerol, percodan and percocet. It can be accused of a federal crime for the purchase of these substances. Finally, regardless of the medication buy, make sure to read the prospectus (or a monograph on my web site). Drug interact with each other and with his body - the prospectus you'll suggestion potentially dangerous behaviour with respect to the medication that was ordered.

Quick summaries of common drugs for pain relief that can request over the Internet with very little risk include:

Fioricet (butalbital)

Fioricet is a combination medication. It is composed of acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine. Acetaminophen is the same drug in Tylenol I know caffeine of coffee (or even the favorite candy bar.) Butalbital is a mild barbiturate. You relax.

Medical science does not have an explanation for the reason of that this combination of drugs by good works, but the fact is Fioricet (and its butalbital) generically is highly effective for tension headache. Presumably, relaxes the muscles of the head and the neck tighten normally during tension headaches... This is higher than our month after month - pharmacy sale drug really helps headaches!

Soma (carisoprodol)

Soma is a muscle relaxant. It acts blocking the electrical signals between nerves in the reticular formation of the brain and spinal cord. Carisoprodol, combined with rest and physical therapy is prescribed for the short term relief of painful conditions muscle - especially muscle Contracture (where the muscle tightens and not relax). Most return result of strains in muscle spasm, so patients are highly effective carisoprodol to relieve back pain.

Celebrex (celecoxib)

Celebrex is used in the treatment of the symptoms of arthritis. This includes swelling, stiffness, swelling and pain in the joints. Medication does not cure arthritis, but they provide symptomatic relief. S an anti-inflammatory drug non-steroidal (NSAID) that relieves the pain and inflammation. The drug works to block the production of prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins contribute to pain and inflammation associated with arthritis.

Ultram (tramadol)

Ultram is used for the treatment of chronic pain. It binds to receptors of opiod nerve (the same mechanism used by drugs), but has potential much lower for the unit. It is the closest to a narcotic can legally ask the United States online. It is not an NSAID (drugs anti - inflammatory drugs) and does not carry the risk of ulcer of stomach and internal bleeding that may accompany the use of such drugs. Zoster, fibromyalgia and other chronic diseases is often prescribed for pain associated with herpes.

Ulracet

Ultracet is a combination of paracetamol and tramadol. Normally it prescribed for short-term (five days) of moderately severe acute pain relief. It is often prescribed for postoperative pain or after dental procedures.

The described ultram mechanism is very similar to the mechanism used by the drug. Of course, acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol. Works to increase the pain threshold (i.e., take more pain stimuli to cause the sensation of pain). These two drugs operate by different mechanisms, and combine to be more effective than any single medication.

Pain relief medication can be ordered securely online, but one must exercise proper caution before doing so. Specifically, it is important to determine if you need to see a doctor before ordering the pain medication. If you have a sudden onset of pain that is not easily explained, you should consult a doctor. If in doubt, go to the emergency room. If, however, you are a patient who has been diagnosed and the pain is a recurring problem, you can conveniently order online pain medication - usually at one lower cost than the combined cost of a doctor's appointment and the same medication.

A Child Psychiatrist's Philosophy on Medication

Many people come into my office with some uneasy hostility to the process. Their child is in trouble - he may have ADHD or depression, an eating disorder, or a mood disorder. He may be oppositional or have a substance abuse problem; he may have separation anxiety, or struggle with Asperger's. They've been sent to me because somebody told them that this child may need medication. And here's the road.
I would prefer not to medicate anybody. I'm a big believer in psychotherapy, family dynamics and in severe cases, placing the child in a better social environment to help them grow. You want to put as little foreign material in the brain as possible because the mind has its own way of healing.
Yet, I medicate all the time. The parents will come in and they'll be upset. "I knew you were going to recommend medicine" (as if they were here for another purpose). "Can't we do it any other way?" The answer to that is usually no - not if they want it to be as effective as possible. The problem here is that the child is dysfunctional and medication is the only thing that can successfully aid the dysfunction to the fullest extent.
You see, children are a moving target. What you see at age 7 is different than at age 12. If a child has ADD and hasn't been treated within those 5 years, it can be extremely damaging. How many times has he been yelled at by his parents, how many times has he caused disruptions in school, how many times has he frustrated just about anyone? This is hard to deal with. These are precious years for the development of self esteem. So I tell parents that medicine gives them a sense of competence during these years and sometimes it's no longer needed when they're older.http://www.enwikipedia.org
I want this child to feel good about growing up, good about school, good about experiences with family and good about his connections to friends. If medicine can help this along the way, so be it. You have to remember that not treating somebody is also a treatment decision, and not giving medicine that can help is a decision to deprive the child of something that can make things a lot better for them. If you don't have a good alternative, then you may be giving a child a bad experience for years and he may not be able to overcome this. When the parents leave my office, they're sober in the assessments and generally agree to medicate their child. Years later they are usually grateful for the decision. It's a heavy decision to use medicine with your child- but it's a decision that could lead to a better life for your child as well.http://www.enwikipedia.org

Pain Medication You Can Legally Order Online

Millions of American live with pain. Chronic pain, daily pain, short term severe pain. Of all the medications sold by online pharmacies, by far the most common type is pain relievers. You might think then that online pharmacies are a great source of pain relievers.
Well, did you know the Drug Enforcement Agency of the United States (DEA) has busted and close over 5000 online pharmacies? Did you know that many online pharmacies sell counterfeit medication? Did you know it is a federal crime for you to order prescription drugs from outside the United States?
It is true, online pharmacies are a great source of pain relief medication. This article teaches you to order pain medication legally, from within the United States, with a legal prescription. It's the only way to go!
First, the caveats: You cannot legally order medication from outside the United States, even if you have a prescription. We always hear about the elderly taking buses to Canada to buy cheap medicine. The fact is, as of this writing, this course is illegal. Also, you cannot legally order medicine from a pharmacy without a prescription. Many online pharmacies (including my own) have physicians on staff who review your medication request and write you a prescription if they think it's safe. In addition, NEVER order narcotics through the mail. Forget codeine, Tylenol #3, oxycontin, demerol, percodan and percocet. You can be charged with a federal crime for buying these substances. Lastly, regardless of the medication you buy, be sure to read the package insert (or a monograph on my web site). Drugs interact with each other and with your body- the package insert will tip you off to potentially dangerous behavior with respect to the medication you ordered.
The following are quick summaries of common pain relief drugs you can order through the Internet with very little risk:
Fioricet (butalbital)
Fioricet is a combination drug. It is made up of acetaminophen, caffeine and butalbital. Acetaminophen is the same medication in Tylenol You know caffeine from coffee (or even your favorite candy bar.) Butalbital is a mild barbiturate. It relaxes you.
Medical Science does not have an explanation for the reason this combination of drugs works so well, but the fact is Fioricet (and its generic form butalbital) is highly effective for tension headache. Presumably, it relaxes the muscles in the head and neck which typically tighten during tension headaches.. This is the top selling drug at our pharmacy month after month- it really helps headaches!
Soma (carisoprodol)
Soma is a muscle relaxant. It acts by blocking electrical signals among nerves in the reticular formation of the brain and in the spinal cord. Carisoprodol, combined with rest and physical therapy, is prescribed for the short term relief of painful muscle conditions- particularly muscle spasm (where the muscle tightens and does not relax). Most back strains result in muscle spasm, so patients find carisoprodol highly effective in relieving back pain.
Celebrex (celecoxib)
Celebrex is used in the treatment of symptoms of arthritis. This includes joint pain, stiffness, swelling and inflammation. The medication does not cure arthritis, but does provide symptomatic relief. It s a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which relieves pain and inflammation. The drug works by blocking the production of prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins contribute to the pain and swelling associated with arthritis.
Ultram (tramadol)
Ultram is used for treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain. It binds to the opiod receptors on nerves (the same mechanism used by narcotics), but it has a far lower potential for dependency. It's the closest medication to a narcotic you can order legally in the US online. It is not a NSAID (nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drug) and does not carry the risk of stomach ulceration and internal bleeding which can accompany the use of such medications. It is often prescribed for pain associated with shingles, fibromyalgia and other chronic diseases.
Ulracet
Ultracet is a combination of acetaminophen and tramadol. It is typically prescribed for the short term (up to five days) relief of moderately severe acute pain. It is often prescribed for post-surgical pain or after dental procedures.
The ultram mechanism as described above is very similar to the mechanism employed by narcotics. Acetaminophen of course is the active ingredient in Tylenol. It works by increasing the threshold to pain (i.e. it takes more pain stimulus to cause the sensation of pain). These two drugs work by different mechanisms, and they combine to be more effective than either drug alone.
Pain relief medication can be ordered safely online, but one should exercise appropriate caution before doing so. Specifically, it's important to determine whether you need to see a physician before ordering pain medication. If you have a sudden onset of pain which is not readily explained, you should consult a physician first. If in doubt, go to the emergency room. If however you are a patient who has been diagnosed, and pain is a recurring problem, you can conveniently order pain medication online- typically at a lower cost than the combined cost of a doctor's appointment and the medication itself.

18 tips for a safer use of the drug

1. list all medicines that you take. Include name, dose and frequency. Don't forget to vitamins, minerals, herbs, topical medications, eye and ear drops, sprays, aids weight loss, oral contraceptives.
2. know the brand name and generic medication. In fact, many people know the medicines that they take from its color and size rather than its name.
3. know what condition/disease the drug is for. It is important because you are more likely to use it properly, more likely to know what to expect from the medication and better able to report what you use and problems to your doctor and pharmacist.
4. avoid the wrong prescription from the pharmacy. Check the medication that is to collect. Make sure that it corresponds with the prescription.
5. use the online drug interaction checker that allows you to insert the drugs you take and verify interactions possible.
6. conditions that put the person at the highest risk for drug interactions are:
-Recruitment of three or more medications for chronic conditions.
-Genetically based variation in ability to metabolize drugs.
-Advanced age.
-Some diseases (anemia, asthma, cardiovascular disease, intensive care patients/critical care, diabetes, epilepsy, gastrointestinal disease, liver disease, Hypothyroid)
-People edited by different doctors.
7. Drugs most likely to be clinically significant interactions involved in are:
-Drugs with a narrow therapeutic index (e.g. warfarin, digoxin)
-Medications that require dosage control cautious (antidiabetic, antihypertensive drugs)
-Inducing liver enzymes (rifampicin, phenytoin) and inhibitors (e.g., cimetidine, ketoconazole)
-Medications with multiple pharmacological effects
8. pay attention to how you feel after the start of the new medicine and note any changes. Assume that any new symptoms that develop after the launch of a new drug may be caused by drugs. Use online tool to check for side effects.
9. tell your doctor if the medication doesn't seem to be effective. No drug has 100% effectiveness rate.
10. avoid treatment of adverse drug reactions and drug-induced disease with multiple medications. Distinguish the true disease and adverse reaction to the medication. Adverse reaction should be managed by lowering the dose of the drug offending or replacing it with a safer alternative.
11. weigh the benefits and risks, making the choice of drug treatment. If the drug is a preferred treatment for your medical problem, try to choose the most effective and safest. You must decide which risks you can and will accept in order to get the benefits you want.
12. start the medication with the lowest dose possible. A lower dose will cause less adverse effects, which are almost always related to the dose.
13. remove unnecessary medications. At least every three to six months, with the doctor regularly review the need to continue to each drug.
14. know when the medication should be taken: before, during or after meals. Food can increase, decrease or delay the absorption of many drugs. Interactions of food can lead to a failure of the treatment or toxic effects of drug therapy.
15. be aware of your medication needs and prepared for any emergency. Store delivery 3-5 days of medications that are important for health.
16. don't skip or reduce doses. Missed doses of medicine for glaucoma, for example, may lead to optic nerve damage or blindness. Missed doses of medicine heart can lead to cardiac arrest.
17. learn to stop using the medication. Many drugs (corticosteroids, antidepressants) should not be discontinued abruptly.
18. many sources recommend that you throw out the unused medication. However, if you anticipate that you may need the same medicine as soon as possible, it makes sense to reserve the rest of the drug. Can help you save money. So, if you decide to save the rest of the unused medicine for future use "just in case"; follow these steps:
-Save the medication in the original container with the lid closed. Will help you to identify the drug over time and provide proper storage conditions
-When to use the old medicines, check the expiration date. In case you can't find the expiration date, throw out the drug

Mass medication through water systems of the world began in 1951 with fluoridation. The optimum level was originally set at the rate of 1 part per million (1ppm) and considered safe.Fluoridation of the public drinking water however has many risks and dangers.

The most obvious question we must ask in trying to assess the purpose of this unusual action taken to medicate the public water supplies, is to enquire as to its real purpose. Health authorities approved fluoridation ostensibly is for the improvement of the teeth of the people. The assumption is that fluoride will improve tooth enamel and that all people will require the same amount of this chemical regardless of their age.

Firstly there is irrefutable evidence from prominent medical researchers, showing this chemical that is sufficiently toxic as to have asserted its place as a rat poison, is also harmful to humans when ingested.

In spite of this, fluoride not only continues to be used in many chemical and even pharmaceutical products but has for decades been deliberately pumped into our Australian public water supplies in spite of extensive demonstrations of objection by groups and individuals. This has left a situation where those members of the community who do not wish to have the quality of their drinking water downgraded in this way must purchase water filters in their home, laboratories, factories and hospitals. Food processing and therapeutic products and industries have been particularly affected. It would be difficult to assess the negative damage to the health of the whole community.

Logical arguments have had no influence in changing the decisions of health departments and medical authorities on a national scale in Australia and will have not the power to do so as long as state governments retain the authority on health issues. Over the years, many scientists and individuals from many countries in the world have put forward their objections. These include the following points as a basis for their argument.....

Regarding the claimed benefit to dental health:

Firstly why should it be seen to be a priority over any other health issues prevalent in the community, such as heart trouble, cancer, diabetes and other diseases? Only a minute percentage of public water will be consumed by children in the suggested time frame when there is potential benefit to their developing teeth. In fact, over-dosing of fluoride produces irregularities in the enamel of children. Appreciating that the recommended safe dose is 1ppm but difficult to guarantee that pumping stations produce an accurate dilution of the toxin in amounts that are totally safe......and that a tube of toothpaste contains up to 1500 ppm and a can of commercial fruit juice contains about 2.8 ppm and mouth rinses from 230-900 ppm we can only conclude that the majority of people in western countries are probably over the toxic limit of ingestion of fluoride prior to any water content analysis. This factor alone leaves commercial enterprises open to exhaustive litigation as the councils and water authorities and even dentists. Gum irritations and allergies are common, not only in those using fluoride toothpaste but in drinking water and medical drugs that are fluorinated.

African American children are shown to be more susceptible to fluorosis or tooth mottling than whites. This demonstrates a need to consider racial constitution as a factor in mass medicine. Those who choose to medicate with fluoride and are persuaded it is to their dental benefit are free to do so through controlled tablet intake.

REGARDING GENERAL HEALTH ISSUES:

Need for Pure Water

It has always been acknowledged that pure water is the basis of good health so accent should be directed by responsible community guardians towards extracting any untoward elements in the water rather than injecting toxic substances into it, even at 1ppm. There is no way to demonstrate that there is any scientific way to control the amount of fluoride any individual will ingest through their water intake because of personal differences in habit, thus making it, along with any other proposed mass medication, an offence against medical principles.

Compulsory Medication is Unethical

To endure compulsory medication through water, the most essential element for health represents a pollution that offends both our aims to good health and is a crime against our democratic principles of personal freedom of choice.

Proven Dangers and Risks

Excessive fluoride or fluorine components in the body that can occur with certain medical drugs produce mild to extreme symptoms and even fatal consequences. The dangers are not only physical such as interfering with thyroid function but include extreme mental and emotional irregularities. This has been a line of research following outbreaks of violent and irrational behavior of young teenagers that have been demonstrated over the last years.

Obesity - Heart Disease - Kidney problems- Cancer -

Obesity is now reaching epidemic proportions in western countries. The toxic affect of fluoride upon the function of the thyroid gland is considered to be a causative factor. As aluminium cookware was last century considered a serious cause of cancer and dementia, fluoride toxicity is suspected of being a factor in this as in many other diseases such as bone deformation, premature aging and nerve and brain diseases. Seemingly co-incidental with fluoridation of water supplies in the twentieth century has been the explosion of cancer and other serious health issues.

Brain and Mental Disease

Many generally prescribed medications and drugs in western countries contain fluoride in considerable amount to make them questionable negative factors and suspected of being the cause of many allergies and conditions as serious as psychotic behavior, depression, and inhibited mental abilities. Warnings include many specific drugs such as Prozac, Luvoc, Lescol, Lipitor, Crestor, Baycol with the last having been removed from the American market after fatalities from adverse reactions.

Pregnancy

Pregnant Women are advised to take no fluoride as it can damage brain function and hormones in the foetus.

Elderly

Elderly are at equal risk as fluoridated water is indicated as a possible main cause of Alzheimer's and dementia.

Children

Children have been harmed by fluoridation and medications containing flurorine and derivatives to the extent that the numerous cases have led to parents forming support groups to lobby for changes. Most recent research shows the link between fluoride and Asperger's disease and autism because of the accumulative lead component involved.

Political Tarnish:

Motivation for the introduction of tons of fluoride into public water supplies is tarnished by considerations that are politically rather than therapeutic in their aims. This is a subject that has been explored by some who seek a reason for such an extreme and illogical action such as fluoridation. Some go further to claim that the practice violates the Nuremberg code regarding restriction on human experimentation.

Industrial Pollution:

The practice is claimed as a convenient dumping ground for industrial wastes. Some believe that the aluminium and fertilizer industries that produce fluoride as a by-product found a convenient and profitable disposal of toxic waste in the public water supply. Fluoride buried in the earth kills plant life. In the air kills stock. In the water...?

SCIENTIFIC OBJECTION:

There is an almost overwhelming amount of evidence accumulating in scientific journals and forums warning of the dangers and risks of our present water fluoridation system upon health. It is widely accepted that it is unsafe a method and entirely uncontrollable in dosage. The factor of chemical allergy and damage to physiological function also give cause for great concern. On these issues there are many doctors and scientists adding their voice and is best said by Dr Arvid Carlsson, Nobel Prize winner for Medicine (2000). "I am quite convinced that water fluoridation, in a not-too-distant future, will be consigned to medical history...Water fluoridation goes against leading principles of pharmacotherapy, which is progressing from a stereotyped medication - of the type 1 tablet 3 times a day - to a much more individualized therapy as regards both dosage and selection of drugs. The addition of drugs to the drinking water means exactly the opposite of an individualized therapy."

Dr Peter Mansfield physician from UK and member of the advisory board to the government review of fluoridation (2000) states...

"No physician in his right senses would prescribe for a person he has never met, whose medical history he does not know, a substance which is intended to create bodily change, with the advice: 'Take as much as you like, but you will take it for the rest of your life because some children suffer from tooth decay.' It is a preposterous notion." The very existence of an organization 'Parents of Fluoride Poisoned Children', founded by Andreas Schuld, a recognized leading expert on fluorides, says enough.

International Consent/Dissent:

The International Dental Federation (FDI) first recommended water fluoridation in 1951. In Europe, since that date it is estimated that more than 53 million people who endured water fluoridation for years are now free of its pollution. Many countries have now ceased the practice. There are now only 6 countries where the people are still compelled to drink fluoridated water: USA, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Columbia and Singapore.

Australia - fluoridation, in spite of hot protest and many public demonstrations is now in many states. At one time the Tasmanian government sought to pass a Bill to "Prohibit public meetings on fluoridation." Our Australian Constitution allows 'the provision of..medical and dental services, but not so as to authorize any form of civil conscription.' On this basis in time fluoridation and any further attempt at mass medication will be banned.

Austria - Some report fluoride has never been added to the water supply but others say in 1956. and that caries in children decreased after stopping in 1973.

Belgium -on the basis that drinking water is not the place to deliver medicinal treatment to people fluoridation was never accepted

Canada -The Green Party of Canada seeks to end water fluoridation in Canada by introducing legislation that will ban fluoridation in Canada at the federal level, effectively overriding any and all local mandates that say otherwise. At present fluoridation of water is in current use but remains a highly controversial issue.

Japan introduced in 1952, stopped 1972 with subsequent rejection of artificial fluoridation. Sweden introduced in 1952 and withdrawn 1971 Sweden banned fluorides in drinking water, toothpaste and food.

Norway - In the later 1990's decision was taken against ever fluoridating the water

Finland introduced 1959 in one town stopped 1993 for the right of individual freedom to enjoy pure water.

Netherlands introduced 1953 withdrawn 1976 after legal ruling of the Supreme Court that there was no legal basis for fluoridation.

China- Fluoridation is banned

Czech Republic - since 1993 no treatment with fluoride has taken place on the basis of it being uneconomical, against ecological patterns, unethical, and its toxicological influence debatable.

Denmark - No Danish city has ever been fluoridated

European Union Less than 2% of the drinking water in Europe is fluoridated.

France - Fluoride is not added to treatment of water for ethical as well as medical reasons.
